Crazy People

A little over a month ago I looked at our spare bedroom and acknowledged that after living here for eight months, it was probably time for me to organize it. I was inspired by the idea that if you want to bring something new into your life you need to make space for it.

It took a whole day, but I went through all our “office” stuff that had accumulated over years of never living anywhere that had a designated “office” space. Lots of memories and hilarious papers I saved for who knows what reason, but after reminiscing for a minute or two I cleared it all out. While listening to a Gabrielle Bernstein talk on manifesting your dreams, I organized my book collection, found all my old yoga teacher training stuff and began to feel super energized.

Stay With You

Every night before I go to sleep I peak in the kid’s rooms. Mostly this ritual started because Gigi sleeps in a toddler bed now, and had a habit of falling asleep in her reading chair or on the floor. Of course if I was up checking on her I had to check on Zeke too. Even though Gigi seems to have grown out of falling asleep on the floor (not before I got some great pictures, don’t worry!),  I still like to check on them before I climb into our bed. Sleeping babies and toddlers look so sweet and perfect, it kind of relaxes me to see them so peaceful.

Gigi’s door tends to stick when I close it, usually it doesn’t wake her up. Last night as I left Gigi’s room and made my way to Zeke’s door I heard it, the scream. She was awake. I quickly checked on Zeke then made my way back to her, hoping to calm her down in time to avoid a meltdown. Too late.

Take Care of Yourself

Hello out there, I haven’t posted in almost two months! I had mentioned previously I was taking time to be with my family and I’m happy to say it was well worth it. My husband has been at his dream job for a little over a month now, and I couldn’t be prouder of him. The strength and determination that man embodies is something to be admired that’s for sure.

Even though I brainstorm blog posts in my mind, usually while I’m trying to fall asleep, I couldn’t decide what would be a good topic for me to write about as I get back into the swing of things. I looked over some of my old ideas and came across the words “Take Care of Yourself”. Seeing as it is the beginning of a new year and being healthy and happy is at the forefront of my mind, taking care of myself seems like the perfect way to kick off 2015 on ohmMother.  Continue reading

“I believe much trouble and blood would be saved if we opened our hearts more.” – Chief Joseph

Last night I checked my Facebook around 9 PM and read an update from a friend regarding looting, and another update expressing concern for the police. I immediately understood I was missing a major breaking news story and turned on CNN. All eyes were on Ferguson.

I started watching the news after the verdict announcement was made, and just before the real rioting started. I watched the crowds get tear gassed, I watched the flash bangs. I watched people running in fear. Every reporter was visibly shaken, it was impossible to be calm. Cars were on fire, buildings were on fire. I was in tears watching the scene unfold and I wasn’t even there. The violence and anger were real, and I could feel it.

I went back to Facebook and saw even more updates on Ferguson. Mostly people’s opinions on the matter. And they were angry. SO angry. People judging and cursing the protesters. Other people judging and cursing the people judging and cursing the protesters. Posting articles that proved only their opinion was right. Sharing pictures and memes attacking the ‘other’ side’s view point. The violence and anger were real, and I could feel it.

On Roller Coasters

When it was dark, you always carried the sun in your hand for me.
― Seán O’Casey

I haven’t written a new blog in a while. Sometimes it is just hard to be inspired. The day-to-day tasks of life can make a week, or even a month go by before you know it. The truth is, day-to-day life isn’t the only thing influencing my lack of inspiration.

When I originally started this blog I was attempting to share the lessons I was learning from the crazy adventure of motherhood. Motherhood is typically brought on with the help of another person. More often than not that person is your chosen partner in life, at least in my case it is. You and your partner are (usually) in love, in a committed relationship and going through the ups and downs of life together. Which brings me to my reason for finally posting, I’m sharing a lesson I’ve learned on love.

Tomorrow I will be taking time out of my day to meditate for peace. I hope you will too.

I am committed to making a better, more peaceful, more sustainable, happier and healthier world.

I realize for most people they may be it work and are unable to meditate in the middle of the day. All you need to do is set an alarm on your phone, and take a moment to think of what peace means to you. It may only take 30 seconds, but it will help create a peaceful shift.

If you aren’t comfortable meditating, perhaps you could pray for peace instead.

No matter your beliefs, if you have one or not, the call for peace is real. And we cannot ignore it anymore.

If you are unable to meditate or pray, simply try posting a peaceful status on your favorite social media outlet, I’ve included some great quotes on peace that would be wonderful to share:

Peace comes from within, do not seek it without. – Buddha

For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.  Romans 8:6

If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other. –Mother Teresa

Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love.  – Francis of Assisi

We can never obtain peace in the outer world until we make peace with ourselves. – Dalai Lama

Anything you can do with PEACE in mind will make a difference. If you would like to sign up visit:

WE are the answer we’ve been waiting for.

WE have to power to bring peace to our world.

WE are peace. YOU are peace. #iampeace

Good Morning

If you had talked to me a few years ago I would have told you I never eat breakfast. All I needed was a Diet Coke and I was set. Luckily I’ve seen the light, and I now understand a good start to my day is essential.

Before I went vegan/vegetarian I ate those Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwiches like it was my job. Then I turned into a cereal girl. I only ate the “healthiest” options, or so I thought. (I’ll admit when I was pregnant I went through a Kix phase, who knows why.) I eventually landed on Special K Red Berries. Now, while Special K isn’t the worst cereal to eat, it is still processed and full of sugar.

These days, I’ve found a much better option that is easy and delicious. It is slightly more time-consuming than a bowl of cereal, but the health benefits make it SO worth it. Plus I’ve found taking the time to whip up a healthy breakfast is extremely relaxing. Instead of one hand on my spoon and one hand on my phone, I actually have time to clear my mind within the first twenty minutes of my day while I prepare my food.

You’re Not Alone

“And as ridiculous as it may sound, sometimes all any of us needs in life is for someone to hold our hand and walk next to us.” James Frey

I’ve always been a fiercely independent person. My mom jokes that my first sentence was, “I can do it myself!” There is no turning back once I make my mind up about something. That’s exactly why when I got pregnant I knew I was going to breastfeed; there was no other option.

I’m happy to say that I am successfully breastfeeding. But I wasn’t a success story over night. In fact it took a lot of nights and a lot of support.

Love Someone

“Love is a funny thing
Whenever I give it, it comes back to me
And it’s wonderful to be
Giving with my whole heart
As my heart receives
Your love”

Well, welcome to wordpress! I changed my blog to be on wordpress for a lot of reasons. It’s prettier, and easier to use than blogger. But mostly I did it because multiple people reached out to me saying they couldn’t leave comments on my old site. Hopefully this move will fix all that 🙂

I’m working on a post about how necessary it is to feel supported in life. I hope you all know how much your support has meant to me as I share my journey. Thank you for giving me your love ♥

In the mean time, I thought I’d share a new song I’m obsessed with. It’s called ‘Love Someone’, and it is from Jason Mraz’s new album ‘YES!” I’ve be a fan of Jason Mraz for years, and I’ve loved watching him grow as an artist. He truly uses his talents to lift the world up. I hope you all love this song as much as I do. xo

Let It Go: The Future

Worrying doesn’t empty tomorrow of its sorrow, it empties today of its strength. – Corrie ten Boom

I’ve been writing about how I’m learning to “Let Go” more in life. I’ve learned the importance of letting go of the past, and also letting go of how I think things should be in the present. I’ll be honest though, this next area I struggle with a lot.

Like I said, I struggle with thinking of the future. And really, ‘thinking’ isn’t the word I should be using, ‘worrying’ is. I struggle with worrying about the future a lot. It’s funny though, I’m a very in the moment kind of person. I don’t think of long term consequences very often, I’m not the best at saving money or planning out meals for the week. In school I always waited till the last minute for my assignments. So even though I’m not exactly perfect at planning ahead, I’ve noticed that I am great at thinking of all the “What ifs?” that could happen in the future.

And you know what I mean by “What ifs?” right? “What ifs” are hypothetical fear based questions we obsess and stress over. What if I get fired? What if there is a natural disaster? What if so and so doesn’t like me anymore? What if I can’t lose the weight? You get the idea. “What ifs?” can be serious or super silly. Either way, they consume us.
